The village of Borgo di Colle Ameno (Pleasant Hill) was born from the vision of the noble Bolognese Philip Carlo Ghisilieri, to build a core urban centre around his villa.
The impressive complex of red buildings which were wanted from Philip Carlo Ghisilieri, senator of the city of Bologna in ‘700, included, in addition to the main house, all the facilities necessary for everyday life: shops, a theatre, a hospital, a majolica factory, a printing house, a church and other service buildings, such as, stables, barns, stores and warehouses.
During the Second World War, Colle Ameno was used by the Germans as a clearing house for the people captured during the mopping up operations.
