Casalecchio di Reno
Tizzano’s Hermitage

Tizzano’s Hermitage is one of the most beautiful places in the town of Casalecchio di Reno, with a view overlooking the plains of Bologna up to the foothills.

The Camaldolese Hermit monks  began to build the monastic complex of the Hermitage in 1655 but the work was only completed in 1741, when the church was consecrated to St. Benedict. The land was bought from the Guastavillani  family in 1621.

The most important work of art to be found here is the Crucifix  made from olive wood, according to Oriental tradition.

At the rear of the chapel, there is a shrine, which is said to house fragments of the True Cross  and other relics reflecting the Passions of Christ.
